Who got them lights?
Saw this on The Craigslist earlier today:
I was pulling out of a driveway on North Loop in my car this evening, around 10:30. You were riding your bike, in the dark, with no lights, in the bike lane towards me. I saw your silhouette so I waited for you to pass, but I also yelled at you out my window.
ME: Get some lights!
YOU: Get a bike!
ME: I have one! With lights on it!
YOU: Fuck off!
This missed connection is between my car and your stupid ass on your bike. I am a bike commuter, but I also own a car I rarely drive. Tonight just happened to be one of those nights. I am sick as hell of seeing cyclists out at night without even a single light. When I'm riding my bike and I can't even see you coming the other way, how the fuck am I or anyone else supposed to see you when I'm driving? Because I ride a bike, I am hyper aware and luckily was able to spot you and not seriously injure you and mess up your bike, which could very well be the only method of transportation you have. Someone else might not have been so cautious and could have fucked you up. Austin drivers already resent cyclists and don't want to share the roads. The least we can do is make ourselves visible to drivers and cyclists to keep everyone safe. It's both a matter of personal safety, and of legality. Grow up, and take some responsibility for yourself and those around you.
C'mon guy, don't be a dick about it just get a freaking light. I got yelled at by a police officer who nearly right-hooked me several weeks back and I HAD a light on the front of my bike, so remember that even a light won't protect you from every eventuality, but it'll definitely help against a few. It may also prevent you from getting a ticket. Just DOO EET.
